Walking for Fun and Stress Reduction

If you haven’t worked out in a while, or are trying to find a simple exercise, give walking a try. It’s the best low impact way to workout. Not only is it easy to do, but you also do not need any unique equipment to do so other than some supportive shoes. Plus, other than a check-in with your physician concerning changes in your physical activity, it’s easy to start. You can typically begin walking and increase your physical fitness level gradually over time.

If you’re like most of us, chances are you have not worked out much since you were younger and you may need to start small. Walking can be an ideal way to begin.

Even if you’re not in the greatest of shape, start by going for 7-15 minute walks around the block at home or around your building at work. Work your way up to more minutes steadily. Challenge yourself to walk more by parking further away from stores and your workplace. Wear a pedometer and aim for a (reasonable) increasing number of steps.

Even if you’re currently in excellent shape, walking can still supply an effective workout. Walk quick and include some hills and even stairs.

So, find a pair of comfy shoes, put them on, and opt for a walk through your neighborhood. Choosing to walk outside can be a lot of fun, too. You might find a local park with a great course you can stroll on while taking in the splendor of nature and making memories with your loved ones. Blend your route and walk in different locations of the town, or check out various parks.

Invite a pal to come in addition to you to stroll. It’s always nice to have a partner to talk with, and having a strolling pal keeps you accountable. If a friend is not available, get your phone, tablet, or laptop and listen to audiobooks or music as you walk to make the time fly by.

When weather conditions don’t allow walking outside, head to your local shopping center and walk or hop on a treadmill.

At home, set a goal to walk in place when you usually would have been watching television. Get up during commercials and march in one spot until your preferred program comes back on. If you’re utilizing a service like Netflix, make yourself stroll in location for 10 minutes in between a binge session of episodes. Or switch on the TV and challenge yourself to march in place throughout the whole show. Time will fly while you’re having a good time enjoying a show and moving your body.

So get out, walk around, and get some exercise in a way that’s gentle on your joints, heart, and the rest of your body. That’s what walking can provide for you. Give it a chance and see if you do not start to feel much better, stronger, and more energetic after several weeks of routine strolls.
